Forward This article was prompted by a post to me on a forum I was once a part of. Here is the post.
Al You have created and released a number of innovative and influential moves and routines over the years (not to mention your theories). What did/does your creative process consist of? Do you follow a set of guidelines or procedures to get you to your goals, or is your process more ad hoc? Finally, do you have any hints and tips to help those of us who are attempting to develop our own ideas within our own styles? Many thanks. Ian

Introduction Being creative is tough to describe how to do much less doing it. First a couple of techniques are presented I use when I must make progress. In general these are used when I have promised someone I will have something new. Then, there is an ordered list to roughly follow to get something new. They are really just suggestions on how to come up with a new something. The final part of this article discusses coming up with at least an outlandish solution. The goal here is to have something to work with. It often works.
Problem Crackers Here are some general guidelines I use for creativity. Note that I do not follow them all of the time. After I have completed some task I will look back and realize that I tended to do these things.
