real time magic illusion here other than
one produced by the impossibility of the
situation. I experimented with the following
sequence to produce a real time illusion of
magic. Holding the deck of cards in my left
hand, I turned the Nine of Spaces face up
on the deck. I did not name the card.
While holding the Nine of Spades face up
on the deck, I carefully showed both sides
of my right hand. Then I turned the Nine of
Spades face down and slid the card from
the top of the deck into my right hand. The
left hand placed the deck on the table.
Then both sides of the left hand were
shown. The card was placed face down on
the palm up left hand. Then the left hand
was turned palm down. This, of course,
brought the card face up but under the left
palm down hand. The audience could see
the top and bottom edge of the face of the
card. Then the right hand grasped an edge
of the card and pulled the card from the
left hand. The left fingers and thumb
pressed on the card as the card was
pulled from the hand. My body and face

emptiness of the hands. Very contrasting
cards were used and the hope was that the
spectator would remember the name of the
card as the hands were initially shown
empty. However, the hope was that that the
spectator would assume the card was
normal and consciously focus on the
fairness and emptiness of the hands.
Near the end, part of the face of the card
was exposed when the left hand turned
palm down. The idea is that the spectator
assumes the card is the same for there is
