real time magic illusion here other than one produced by the impossibility of the situation. I experimented with the following sequence to produce a real time illusion of magic. Holding the deck of cards in my left hand, I turned the Nine of Spaces face up on the deck. I did not name the card. While holding the Nine of Spades face up on the deck, I carefully showed both sides of my right hand. Then I turned the Nine of Spades face down and slid the card from the top of the deck into my right hand. The left hand placed the deck on the table. Then both sides of the left hand were shown. The card was placed face down on the palm up left hand. Then the left hand was turned palm down. This, of course, brought the card face up but under the left palm down hand. The audience could see the top and bottom edge of the face of the card. Then the right hand grasped an edge of the card and pulled the card from the left hand. tensed as if I was exerting effort. As the card came out from under the hand, it was seen to be the Ace of Hearts.
I tried this on laymen only a few times. The results were quite amazing. My test audiences were genuinely shocked.
The goal of this handling was to create the impression that the card changed in real time right before the eyes of the observer. Note, that the name of the card was not mentioned. All attention was put on the emptiness of the hands. Very contrasting cards were used and the hope was that the spectator would remember the name of the card as the hands were initially shown empty. However, the hope was that that the spectator would assume the card was normal and consciously focus on the fairness and emptiness of the hands.
