For those that may not see this, a stack of quarters is covered with a plastic cylinder and topped of with a ball of flash paper. The paper is ignited and the quarters are seen to be gone and found under some playing cards that have been placed in a circle about the cylinder and coins.
A critical issue with me was to make the coins in the middle disappear with a very magical method. I did not want to use a traditional stack of coins and merely lift them with the cover and ditch them in the process. I was driven to find a method to simply tip back the cylinder and clearly show there were no coins present. The image of that stuck in my mind.
Thus, along the way I had several ways to cause the stack of coins to vanish. I was thinking of special stacks, shells of stacks and so on. In the end just using real coins seemed to be the best.

Likewise, there were several ways to get the coins under the cards. I made special cards that would insert coins under a card after a card was flipped, special decks that would inject a coin into your hand at just the right time and even thought of a center piece that would inject coins under the cards after they were placed onto the table. Each of these met with some kind of frustration. There was also the idea of using a product on the market called Coin Card. This is a brilliant way to load coins under cards. However, the method does not allow the card to be shown on both sides before the card is placed onto the table. The method finally settled on seems a bit over complicated but works well and gets the job done.
