matches. My initial thought was to use one of those flame guns used to light barbecue fires. Another method would be to have some kind of a container to hold a burning stick of some sort. The container would be a big bowl lined with soft sponge. Then the burning stick is fetched from that bowl and the stack ditched into the bowl.
Another Possibility Much time has passed since I have done this trick. I have bumped into a few people capable of making trick coins. It is possible to make quarters with middles that are magnetic. Such coins could stick together in a manner suitable for this trick. The individuals were not inclined to manufacture such props. So, right now there is not a commercial alternative to the sticky tape.
Conclusion I think this is a good trick. However, it is a bit awkward in many situations. It would fit well with a very formal close up show in

which the audience is asked to sit down kind of theater style in front of the performer sitting at his own table. Bear in mind that this was developed more as a show piece rather than a professional piece of magic. But in the right place, it could create memories. But then, that is the way with most magic.
