Submissions
As all this
is new, I do not know if people will want to submit their material. However,
a purpose of this magazine is to open the door for the common magician
to participate.
Right now
if you wish to submit something, just email me and tell me what it is.
We can talk about it.
The followng is a plan for submissions I have written up. Right now it
is just a plan. As I do not know how all of this will go over I cannot
implement this. But, you might get an idea of what I think by reading
the following.
All submissions
are accepted for review.
Insertion depends upon quality of presentation and relavance to magic
or things said in the magazine. Rebuttles of thoghts presented in the
magazine are accepted. Self-stroking, egocising and othewise condesending
behavior are not tolerated unless I am writing the article.
Notification of acceptance.
I will try to notify you if your article is accepted.
I will not guarntee it.
I am afraid of being overwhelmed with kids striking out for glory. Not
that this is bad. I was there once. But dealing with that can be tedioius.
Acceptance falls into three catagories:
Great, it goes in next issue.
Good, it will fit in some furture issue.
OK, it could be used someday.
I am the judge and jury about this matter. There is not fairness in this.
Get used to it. I had to.

DO NOT SUBMIT
VIA EMAIL
Please reserve email for discussions about projects.
I DO NOT LIKE TO WAIT FOR LARGE ATTACHMENTS WHEN I GET MY EMAIL.
IF YOU SEND ME A LARGE ATTACHMENT YOU WILL BE ON MY !!!@@@ LIST.
Put a text
file with the name "About this CD" on the CD that contains your
name, your email address and what the article/item is about. Include a
bio that can contain a link to your site.
Please
submit text material in a text document. The text document should indicate
pictures by inserting the file name of the picture. Write the text so
it refers to the picture or clip immediately following. Callouts are not
used in final publication.
Use .jpg files for pix. Include the pix on the CD. Clips to be used should
be put on the CD. Clips should be included for both Windows users and
Apple users. Normally this is .wmv and .rm. If you cannot cope with this,
email me and we will discuss it.
Here
are a few writing suggestions:
Make a habit
of introducing what you are about to say.
Say it.
Then summarize what you said.
Do
not use references without explanation.
When refering to some other work, explain what the relavance is. Do not
expect the reader to go buy the book and read the entire thing to find
the material refered to is the last paragraph of chapter 12.
When using a reference, explain what the reference said and why it applies.
Explain everything. For example, if you need to vanish something and it
is not really part of what you are trying to say, at least give a rudimentary
description of how to do a vanish.
Suggestions
for videos:
No crotch shots.
Use sufficient lighting so the images are not dark.
Use patter to present the work.
No clips shot on kitchen table, coffee table or beds.
At least use a blanket or blank wall as a backdrop so it could have been
done in a studio.
A few notes about making videos.
Most people think you shoot a video using a black or dark background.
For most clarity, keep the shade of the background the same shade as the
object in the video you really want the audience to be aware of. For example,
if you want your hands to show up well against a close up pad, use a color
pad that is very similiar to your hands. Then the details of you hands
will show up well.
Don't have complex backgrounds. It uses up video bandwith.
Do not zoom. That really uses up video bandwidth. Use cuts instead to
change scenes.
